Everyone works differently. Some people are super organized and colour code their worksheets, and other people just work when they feel like it. There are two main issues with this when it comes to a PhD. For one, you have a deadline.
You cannot do the PhD forever. Other days, you are going to procrastinate every single second you are awake and get nothing done. Again, these tend to balance out. When you start the PhD, sit down and make a schedule. This is not going to be detailed. Use Excel, or coloured pens.
Whatever floats your creative boat. June was our main training month and a lot of things happened at the university, so it was July before I started data analysis and that took me well into September to complete.
